Day 6: Childhood memory

11 Aug

I didn’t post yesterday’s photo yesterday, as I wanted to keep up the tradition of Wordless Wednesday. Yesterday was ‘childhood memory’, a concept I find hard… because, I don’t have many childhood memories. Without going into details, I experienced a lot of painful things during my childhood, things that I keep with me still. Of course, I have happy memories too – like the time we went camping, all four of us, sleeping in a tent high up on the mountain where there was nothing but heavy clouds and heather.

I remember waking up early, around dawn. It drizzled outside. I had slept in my jeans, which I always did when I slept in a tent. No time for pyjamas. I’m not sure how old I am. Four, perhaps? Five? I had to go to the bathroom, which there were none of. So I tried to wake my mom up, to get her to come with me. I’ve never liked going outside, and still don’t. I couldn’t get her to come with me, and I remember getting out of the tent alone, and I remember the feeling of the clammy jeans, you know, the way they get when you’ve slept in them, in a sleeping bag. My wellies in the wet heather, the heavy, drizzling clouds above. I so distinctly remember the sight of my blue jeans, my purple wellies and the beautiful heather all wrapped up in this heavy weather, the smell of dusk.

So how do you take a photo of that? That’s hard. I could have tried to recreate it, taking my camera and drive to a place I know I can find some heather, put on my big-girl wellies and try to shoot it, but I think it would ruin it.

Instead I found a photo from my kindergarten-file: A small paper folder, with my name on the outside. The kindergarten has adhered a a note on the inside cover saying that this is for the children, so that they feel safe. The parents are to put pictures of the families inside, so that the children will have some familiar faces. I’m not sure when it was made, maybe throughout the years I spent there. There are some photos inside, my dad holding me right after I was born, from my 4th birthday in kindergarten, to the vacation in Greece before I started school i ’92. Maybe it was meant as something we should keep from our kindergarten days, for when our school years began? I’m not sure, but I have a distinct impression that it was given to me by my kindergarten.

I picked a photo from it. There are not many to choose from. There is not a lot of photos to choose form my childhood. I have these six. Those that are in the folder.

I chose this one. I’m 1 1/2 years old. We’re vacationing in Denmark. I’m holding on to this foal and refusing to let it go.

Day 2 – What I wore + Tall Ships Race

6 Aug

Day 2 of the photo challenge and still going strong (don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll drop it soon… I only managed three days of 365 last year!):

I also got a bit of scrapping done, digging out kits from the summer of 2010! Summer has not been much to brag about here, but I got some good photos at the Tall Ships Race last weekend!

Journaling reads: At the end of July, while Terje was on his motorcycle trip, I went with my mom, Camilla, Arnt and Rebecca to the “boat festival”, which it often is called. Beautiful weatherand gorgeous ships gave it a “southern feel”, right in the middle of Stavanger!

Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow!

A picture of a layout of a hand holding a picture + GIVEAWAY!

2 Aug

I combined this week’s Sunday sketch and Weekly challenge from Studio Calico today, in a super-easy layout. The photo is a photo of the first photo from my new Instax camera. Wow.. That’s a whole lotta “photo”s! And since this is so meta as you can get, which almost made my husband’s head explode (or so he says), I had to include a photo of me holding the layout with a a photo of my hand holding a photo…!

Also, I’ll be hosting a give-away. Blog/tweet/post about this giveaway, and then comment on this post with a link to where you’ve posted about it for a chance to win one red Smash book from K&Co.! Also, the more places you post about this giveaway, the more chance you have of winning! Winner will be announced on August 16th 🙂

Another entry!

I was going to make a layout about the mess I’ve made of this apartment, as I got a photo of the kitchen table a couple of days ago. I did make the layout, in 30 minutes or so, but I’m not happy with it and won’t be showing it. Seriously!

I did, however, make another page. After getting a large format printer for Yule, I haven’t used it much, but it was put to good use today as I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go for printing the photo on photo paper or white cardstock. I printed both, but went for the paper.

The title says “A detour” and the journaling is about the car trip we made last Friday. Photo taken as we ascended on the Gloppedal scree.

Made with Studio Calico’s March kit, Candy Shoppe. Inspired by Céline‘s gorgeous full page-photo layouts!

Ok, so after spending the weekend in front of the TV, and having my husband leave on his amazing week long motorcycle ride on Sunday, I needed something to distract me somewhat. I started scrapping again. In addition to having my own room (for office and craft area), I’ve completely taken over our kitchen table (there will be a post on this very soon) as well as the living room table! I tell myself I cannot scrap in the office as I need the desk to be clean of everything scrap so that I can use the computer on it to write my thesis. So, I’ve set myself up on the kitchen table to be close to my husband while scrapping. But now that he’s gone, I’ve started scrapping on the living room table so that I can watch TV while doing so. You don’t have to tell me, I know I’m taking over this apartment!

But! Here is the layout I made yesterday, with yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday photo! It’s based on the latest sketch from Pencillines, using Studio Calico’s June Kit, Paper Moon.

I also just noticed that I won last week’s Sketch Thursday with Elle’s Studio, one of my favorite manufacturers these days! Guess who’s going shopping?!

Elle’s Studio released this week’s Sketch Thursday, and I decided to join in. I hope this layout is not a too wild interpretation of the original layout/sketch!

I fell in love with this woodgrain design for the Silhouette, and though to have many 2.5″ circles on my layout, but I should have understood that the original size of the design is what it’s intended for. Let’s just say that I spent quite some time picking flossy cardstock off the cutting mat.

The title might seem a bit egoistic, but really… When you think about it: Don’t we all deserve some “me-time”?

That was the status this morning. Sadly it didn’t last for long, but I got a photo of it (well, except the humans, but you can’t have it all).
